Gopher State Spring Basketball continued its upward momentum in 2025, registering 2,441 teams, including several new club programs from South Dakota and Iowa. Championship Weekend featured 276 teams, marking an increase of 11 teams from the previous year.
We also saw a clear trend of growth in June tournaments, with 50 more teams participating compared to 2024—showing increased confidence and demand for late-spring competition.
Gopher State 3v3 expanded into two new locations: Bloomington Jefferson and Hermantown. A special shoutout goes to Hermantown, which joined late in the summer but successfully hosted a strong 3v3 event with only three weeks of registration. We’re excited to build on that success and look ahead to an even bigger Year 2 in Hermantown.
Fall Basketball delivered solid participation numbers and provided club teams with a valuable final competitive run before the community-based winter season began. It continues to be an important bridge between summer and winter basketball.
The Northern Twin Cities League continued to grow, finishing the year with 51 girls teams and 82 boys teams.
This season marked Jason Bennett’s first year at MYAS and his first time leading a full program. Jason did an outstanding job running the NTCL—great work and leadership throughout the season.
Year 3 of the 3rd Grade Travel League is underway with 42 teams. We were excited to secure new locations in Coon Rapids and St. Francis. Hosting games in St. Francis gives local players the rare opportunity to compete on their home courts, rather than always traveling—an important step in supporting those communities.
The Gopher State High School League entered Year 4 with the addition of a Training Camp for all registered players. The camp featured four 2.5-hour sessions, allowing athletes to work directly with our clinicians on skill development, conditioning, and game preparation.
For the 2025–26 season, the GSHSL includes 51 teams:
27 Upperclassmen teams
12 Sophomore teams
12 Freshman teams
League play officially gets underway in January, and excitement is building for another competitive season.
194 teams participated in the tournament from Wayzata, Maple Grove, Eden Prairie, Mounds View, White Bear Lake, Farmington and Rosemount.
The 20th Annual MYBA Kick-Off Jamboree was held on October 25th at St. Michael Albertville High School (STMA). There were 49 teams that participated in the event.
As we head into 2026, Gopher State Basketball remains focused on:
Continued program growth across all age levels
Expanding regional partnerships and locations
Enhancing player development opportunities
Maintaining high-quality, competitive events for teams, families, and communities
Thank you to all the athletes, coaches, families, staff, and partners who made 2025 a successful year. We’re looking forward to building on this momentum and making 2026 our best year yet.
