Inaugural GSFL season concludes

October 15, 2025

That’s a wrap on the inaugural season of the Gopher State Football League (GSFL)!

With the Bowl Games taking place this past weekend and the final make-up games concluding last night, we officially close the book on Year One of the GSFL — a season that brought together 183 teams from 32 community-based youth football associations.

It has been an absolute joy and honor to serve as your Managing Directors and League Representatives throughout this journey. From the planning, strategy, and implementation that took place January-July, to the initial coaches’ clinic in July, multiple coaches’ meetings in early August and complex scheduling process to the unforgettable Opening Weekend at the National Sports Center, where 180 teams played 90 games across eight brand-new turf fields, capped with the Bowl weekend, this season has been nothing short of remarkable.

We recognize that launching a first-year league that unified three established leagues into one community-based model was no small task. There were challenges and growing pains, but our collective patience, collaboration, and commitment to youth football made it all possible. The foundation we built together this season will serve as the cornerstone for the future of community-based youth football in Minnesota.

Throughout the season, we have been taking notes — identifying building blocks of success and growth opportunities that will make Gopher State Football League 2.0 even stronger, and more enjoyable for all involved.

As we turn our focus toward the 2026 campaign:

  • We will be connecting with all Association Leaders and GSFL Advisory Group members beginning in November.
  • Association Leaders, please watch for a GSFL Survey at the end of October. Your feedback will help shape the direction of the 2026 season.
  • Regional association meetings will be scheduled for mid to late November and December to review feedback, discuss enhancements, and plan for the 2026 season.

Thank you again for your partnership, patience, and passion for the game. Together, we have built something truly special — and this is just the beginning.

With appreciation and respect,

The GSFL Managing Directors & League Representatives
