2012-2013 MYAS BASKETBALL OFFICIAL CLINICS |
||||||||||||||||||||||
|
The MYAS would like to thank all the officials for making the 2011-2012 basketball season a success. This year our clinics will continue with the four station format from last year. We had positive comments about the format and will add some improvements this year. As in the past, you must attend one of the clinics to work any of our games. If you are MSHSL certified you will receive an additional $1.00 per game. The cost of the clinic will be $20.00 (when you pre-register) and includes your 2013 MYAS membership. The fee will be collected at the clinic. The MYAS registration will be good for one year (September 1 through August 31); you must purchase a new membership each year. You must pre-register by noon the day of clinic to be able to attend for only $20.00 (NO EXCEPTIONS). If you pre-register late or don't pre-register, the clinic will cost $30.00. To register for the Official's Clinics, log in to your Officials Control Center panel and click the Registrations tab. If you do not have a login, contact Buddy Hemric at 763-746-1717 or buddy@myas.org. Minnesota’s “Concussion Law" - The Minnesota Legislature's Concussion Law requires on-line training for all coaches and officials. The Minnesota Legislature passed a "Concussion Law" which requires any municipality, business, school district or non-profit organization that organizes a youth athletic activity and charges a fee to follow the statute’s requirements, including the implementation of concussion training and education and establishing safe return-to-play policies for athletes who sustain a concussion. The law mandates that all coaches and officials receive concussion training and education and then at three-year intervals thereafter. Those of you who are Minnesota State High School certified will need to do the on-line video training that is currently on the Minnesota State High School League website in the Officials Corner section. For those of you who are not State High School certified, we recommend that you go to the National Federation of State High Schools website and complete their concussion education training; you can go to (www.nfhslearn.com). This course requires registration but it is FREE! Both training sessions involve watching a video and then successfully completing a quiz. The training will take less than half an hour and then you can print a certificate of completion. You must submit a copy of this Concussion Training Certificate of Completion before you will be allowed to officiate for the MYAS this season. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS NOT AN MYAS REQUIREMENT; IT IS A LAW PASSED BY THE MINNESOTA LEGISLATURE. Full or Short Clinic? Seating is limited to 200 per clinic. Each clinic is scheduled for two hours and 30 minutes for the full version and 30 minutes for the short version. Both versions start at 7:00pm. If you are late (more than five minutes) you will be asked to reschedule for a new date (NO EXCEPTIONS). MYAS Membership Requirement: If you are not MSHSL certified you will have to have a background check done. We will have the forms to fill out at the clinic. The background check costs $20.00 and is good for two years. Clinic Locations & Schedules (all clinics start at 7:00pm):
We encourage you to attend one of our live clinics. If you cannot attend one of our live clinics we will have a video presentation available beginning in January. You must view the video presentation at Murzyn Hall in Columbia Heights prior to receiving the new pay scale (NO EXCEPTIONS). The cost of the clinic at Murzyn Hall will be $30.00. If you are late (more than five minutes) you will be asked to reschedule for a new date (NO EXCEPTIONS). If you do not preregister by noon the day of clinic you will be charged an extra $10.00! Both the long and the short video clinics start at 4:00pm. Video Clinic Dates and Location:

Youth Basketball Officials’ Training Clinics
Sponsored by
Minnesota Youth Athletic Services
The MYAS will once again be offering Youth Basketball Officials’ Training Clinics for youth basketball associations in the fall of 2012. This program is specifically designed to educate and train your in-house basketball officials regardless of experience. For the short term, we hope this training will immediately enhance the quality of officiating at the local level. For the long term, we hope that it will foster more high quality adult officials for travel leagues.
Buddy Hemric is the Associate Director of the MYAS and has 30+ years of experience as a youth basketball league official and high school basketball referee. Buddy will be able to “tell it like it is” and what it will be like when you hit the court. Buddy will make sure that you are prepared to do the job right the first time.
These two- to three-hour clinics will be conducted by knowledgeable, veteran basketball officials who truly care about the game and the young athletes who play.
These clinics will feature: This officials’ training course is just $10.00 with a certificate of completion given to every official who satisfactorily completes the test and course.
Associations with 20 or more officials may schedule training courses in their own communities. To schedule a training course, please call Buddy Hemric at the MYAS office at (763) 746-1717, or send e-mail to buddy@myas.org.
